First Global Logistics, a member of the Project Logistics Alliance headquartered in Egypt, recently managed the transportation of oversized transformers from Egypt to Nigeria using the Ex Works term. The shipment consisted of seven CSS 1500KVA transformers and an outdoor LV switchgear taking up a volume of 493.11 cubic meters in total and weighing 104.5 tons.

Demonstrating their strong commitment to delivering top-notch service, the First Global Logistics team conducted thorough research on the specific commodity type, paying meticulous attention to the freight dimensions and centre of gravity. Despite the manufacturer's initial plan for dismantling the transformers into units with overwidth and overheight that could not fit into the flatracks, the experts at First Global Logistics proposed an innovative alternative that ultimately reduced costs for the client. This prompted a change in the loading procedures. Certain cargo components were strategically repositioned to match the trailer dimensions by employing a 40' low bed trailer along with five 40' flat rack high cube trailers. The transformers and switchgear were packed into a total of five packages, each with the following dimensions and weights:

To cater to the unique requirements of the shipment, First Global Logistics presented three different proposals for potential arrival ports: Apapa, Onne, and Tin Can. After carefully evaluating and obtaining necessary approvals from the Apapa terminal to accommodate specialized equipment, the decision was made to ship the transformers and switchgear to Apapa.
In close collaboration with the designated shipper, the team devised a meticulous packing plan to place the dismantled transformers within wooden crates securely. To optimize costs, the empty trailers were directly transported from Damietta port to the designated loading site specified by the shipper. The loading commenced with positioning the empty flat racks onto the low bed trailers, and then placing the dismantled transformers atop the flat rack trailers.
Given the substantial weight of the cargo, the team efficiently acquired road permits and arranged all essential documentation. Upon reaching the Apapa port, the team efficiently managed all customs procedures, including settling pertinent port fees.
Throughout every project stage, First Global Logistics showcased remarkable capabilities and innovative problem-solving approaches, solidifying its position as a frontrunner within the global project logistics industry.
