Project Logistics Alliance’s Irish member, Monaghan Freight Ltd., was contracted to transport a highly specialized computerized testing unit for a data centre from Ireland to Italy and back. The unit, measuring 4.00 meters in length, 3.20 meters in width, and 4.10 meters in height, weighed 8000 kilograms. Manufactured in Ireland with Italian components, the unit required final testing in Italy before returning for integration into a finished machine in Ireland.
Loaded in Letterkenny, Ireland, the unit was transported to Montecchio Maggiore (VI), Italy. Ultra-low wafer deck trailers, with a running height of 300mm, from Monaghan Freight’s own fleet was employed to accommodate the cargo’s significant heigh. Once the cargo arrived in Rotterdam, Tiel Logistics B.V., representing the Netherlands in the Alliance, utilized specialist handling equipment to transfer the unit from the trailer to another one designated for the Italian journey.

Managing the cargo's height presented significant challenges, requiring detailed route planning. Additionally, the logistics operation had to accommodate the client's request for the truck to remain in Italy for three days while the unit underwent testing before returning immediately to Ireland, which added a layer of complexity to the schedule. However, careful planning and execution ensured that the project remained on track and met all client expectations.
The successful delivery and testing of the computerized testing unit demonstrate the capabilities of the logistics teams involved. Congratulations to Monaghan Freight Ltd. and Tiel Logistics B.V. We look forward to reporting more such collaborations.
