Denholm Good Logistics Undertakes Logistics for One of the World's Largest Offshore Wind Farm Projects

Denholm Good Logistics (DGL), representing Ireland in the network, has successfully undertaken a specialized shipment as part of the Sofia Offshore Windfarm Project. Sofia is poised to become one of the largest offshore wind farms globally and one of the farthest from shore. This ambitious project involves a major engineering feat, drawing on long-term offshore wind heritage and the technological expertise of our suppliers. It incorporates numerous innovations and advances made by the offshore wind sector as it has grown in size and sophistication over recent years.

The journey originated in Santos, Sao Paulo, Brazil, covering nearly 10,000 km to deliver specialist reactors. To ensure the safe transportation of the 11,500 kg load, delicate packing into five wooden crates was necessary to distribute the weight effectively. Additionally, the crates were securely lashed to two 40-foot flat racks before being loaded onto the sea vessel bound for Liverpool. The ocean transit took 47 days.

Upon arrival in Liverpool, Peel Ports, the enlisted agent, offloaded the five crates. The shipment then continued its journey by road to its final destination in South Shields on the North-East coast of England. Unloading equipment was pre-arranged with the receiver, and after a two-day cross-country haulage, the equipment was efficiently deployed in South Shields.

DGL's Project Forwarding team, armed with experience and knowledge, ensured that all customer requests and expectations were met or exceeded at every stage of the shipment process. During the UK leg of the transit, the team maintained frequent communication with the customer, providing regular updates to confirm adherence to arrival timeframes and cost efficiencies.
