Dealex Transport Overcomes Challenges to Deliver Wind Turbines for Ukrainian Wind Farm after Two-Year Delay

Dealex Transport, representing Ukraine in the Project Logistics Alliance, has successfully completed a project despite the challenges posed by the ongoing war. The project involved releasing wind turbines from Pivdennyi Port after the cargo had been stored at port facilities for around two years.

The shipment consisted of turbines, blades, and towers, with the heaviest unit weighing 90 tons and the longest measuring 123 meters. The cargo, which included Goldwind GW 155-4.8MW type turbines, was destined for the 288MW Ochakov wind power project in Ukraine.
As part of the project, Goldwind cooperated with COSCO Shipping, relying on COSCO’s specialized carriers to ensure the safe and timely delivery of these vital components for the Ochakov wind farm. The components were meticulously loaded onto the 29,600 dwt Da-Type 3 multipurpose vessel at Taicang Port in China in November 2021 and arrived in Pivdennyi around the beginning of 2022. Thorough planning by Dealex Transport allowed for the release of the turbines from the port, ending years of delay caused by the war.

The sheer weight and size of the cargo required specialized equipment, including one vessel crane with a capacity of 100 metric tons and two cranes capable of handling 350 metric tons each (700 metric tons combined). The cargo was transported using a combination of 7 and 10-axle trailers, 4-axle truck heads, and 5-axle telescopic trailers for the blades.
One of the significant challenges faced during this operation was the limited timeframe. However, with meticulous planning and execution, Dealex Transport managed to overcome this obstacle. The client had specifically requested that the discharge from the vessel and the port handling be completed as swiftly as possible. Dealex Transport’s team succeeded in fulfilling these requests in a timely manner, releasing a total of 373 pieces and 7,148 tons of cargo.
