Alexander Global Logistics (AGL), a member of the Project Logistics Alliance and representing Germany in the network, recently coordinated the transport of two massive tanks. The complexity of the transport, and the success of team AGL in finding suitable solutions, highlight the company’s logistical expertise and capability.
Each of the two tanks measured 21 x 4.57 x 4.96 meters and weighed 75 tons. The transport route spanned from Ankara, Turkey, to Mannheim, Germany, via Antwerp, Belgium. The project involved sea freight, harbor operations, inland waterway transport, and road transport within Mannheim.

Before the project began, AGL had to wait four months to receive the necessary transport permits. Additionally, team AGL conducted several site visits with the responsible authorities to determine the complete transport procedures. The sea freight from Turkey to Antwerp was managed using a charter vessel. Once the cargo arrived in Antwerp, the first port operations were carried out, and the tanks were transferred to an inland vessel for transport to Mannheim.
The most challenging part of the operation occurred in Mannheim, where the tanks were transferred from the inland vessel to a vessel bridge trailer, which extended over 25 meters. The combined length of the truck and trailer reached 55 meters. This phase of the transport took place on a private site that team AGL had prepared specifically for the project. The tanks were then transported on a prearranged 10-kilometer route.

During this journey along German country roads and motorways, team AGL had to temporarily remove traffic signs, traffic lights, motorway gantries, and several lanterns. After four hours of careful driving with police escort cars, the tanks successfully reached their final destination at Essity in Mannheim.
Throughout the project, team AGL demonstrated meticulous planning, precise coordination, and attention to detail. This project exemplifies AGL’s ability to manage every aspect of the transport process with efficiency, positioning the company for future success in handling even more challenging and ambitious projects.
Well done, team Alexander Global Logistics!
